Prishtina, 17 september 2010 – The Minister of Energy and Mining, Justina Shiroka-Pula, is currently paying an official visit to the United States of America, during which she is expected to have meetings with senior American officials.On the first day of the visit, on 16 September 2010, Minister Pula was received, in two separate meetings, by Congressmen Tim Holden and Christopher Carney.

In both meetings, Minister Pula thanked the American legislators for the extensive support provided so far by the American state and people to Kosovo. On these occasions, Minister Pula informed both congressmen on the activities of the Government of Kosovo, reforms and restructuring taking place in energy and mining sectors, reforms in legal and regulatory basis of these sectors, with a view of enabling and attracting private investment to Kosovo.

Minister stated that the institutions and the people of Kosovo want to see large and serious American investors investing in energy and mining sectors in Kosovo, because there are potentials, albeit it requires more promotion for private investment.

Minister informed both congressmen that under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, a conference is being prepared to promote Kosovo’s potentials to American investors, a conference expected to be held by the end of October 2010 in New York.

American congressmen expressed their appreciation for the Minister’s presentation, and promised to get involved, through relevant American institutions, including the State Department, in ensuring a greater support, and stronger encouraging of American investors to invest in Kosovo.

During the days to come, Minister Pula will be meeting various groups with an interest for energy and mining sectors in Kosovo. Policies of the Thaci Government on full restructuring of energy and mining sectors, and efforts being made towards conducing considerable private investments, will be presented on such an occasion.
