Prishtina, 4 February 2011 – Alb-shkenca and Ministry of Energy and Mining promoted a scientific book containing a number of scientific studies titled “Pollution monitoring and energy developments in Albania and Kosovo”, at the premises of the National Library.

Studies this book comprises address matters related to the environment and energy developments in Kosovo and Albania. At this occasion the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mining Dr. Tech. Blerim Rexha noted that social and economic developments directly depend on the energy available to the society.

“To develop our economy further, we should generate more energy. As Kosovo has vast reserves of lignite, electricity production issues were and will remain among the most significant pillars that will serve as the foundation for the country’s economic development and subsequently for the enhancement of the welfare of its citizens”, Rexha stated.

He also notified all attendants that MEM is committed to the development of new generation capacities, which are to commence this year. “MEM remains committed to treating the problem of environmental degradation with primary care, with special attention on the potential negative impacts of such new capacities, on both local and global level. To this purpose, until now MEM undertook all necessary steps to ensure the least possible adverse impact of any activities and to provide the containment of all such activities within the internationally acknowledged standards and limits”, said Deputy-Minister Rexha.

Jahja Kokaj, the editor of the book, assessed in his opening remarks that scientific studies presented in this publication are of great interest for all stakeholders in the environment and energy spheres.
