Prishtina, 24 march 2011 – Besim Beqaj, the Minister of Economic Development, requested Macedonia’s support in solving the problems related to the respect of the CEFTA agreement that Kosovo faces as a consequence of the blockade imposed by Serbia and Bosnia.

The request was presented in the bilateral meeting that Minister Beqaj held today in Skopje with his counterpart, Minister of Economy of Macedonia Fatmir Besimi, with whom he discussed on the identification of spheres for economic development cooperation between the two countries and on the implementation of the agreement between Kosovo and Macedonia signed in 2009.

Minister Beqaj’s meeting was held in the framework of the visit to Macedonia of the President of Republic of Kosovo Behgjet Pacolli, and the organization of the Kosovo – Macedonia Business Forum, attended by a large number of business representatives from both countries.

Beqaj and Besimi also discussed on cooperation in the field of energy, mining and telecommunications and expressed the need for advancing respective legislation in order to create a favorable investment climate for foreign investors.

Both counterparts agreed that concrete steps need to be made towards the identification of projects and tariff barriers that the businesses need to overcome in order to facilitate the economic communication between the countries.
