Prishtinë, 6 September 2011 – In the meeting with Mayor of Zagreb, Mr. Milan Bandic, the Minister of Economic Development, Besim Beqaj, ascertained that economic development represents the basis for cooperation in other spheres. “We spoke on economic development, which should represent the basis for all cooperation and for the utilization of Kosovo’s potentials and its positioning in the regional level, with its natural resources and young population, in its journey towards EU”, said Minister Beqaj after the meeting with the Mayor of Zagreb.

Minister Beqaj said that in the meeting it was concluded that the level of cooperation and politic and economic harmonization between the two countries stands at the highest possible level, and underlined that this was proven by the recent visit of Prime Minister Kosor to Kosovo.

“We discussed on the relations of the central and local authorities, in relation to public utility enterprises, always reviewing the best examples of excellent service provision for citizens, and I think that Mayor Bandic, with this 11-year experience as the mayor of an extraordinary city, is able to provide us with advice on this matter. He also offered his suggestions and readiness to assist us in the field of defining competencies over public enterprises between the central and local levels”, said Minister Beqaj.

The Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandic, emphasized that his visit to Kosovo is owed to the continuous good relations initiated by the former president Stipe Mesic, as well as the current President, Ivo Josipovic, and Prime Minister, Jadranka Kosor. “I think that the capital of Republic of Croatia is obliged not only to preserve the continuum of good relations, but strengthen further the cooperative arrangements between the two capitals”, said Mayor Bandic. Bandic further expressed his fascination with Kosovo’s youth, qualifying it as Kosovo’s and region’s greatest asset. “I was fascinated with this young state’s greatest capital – Kosovo’s youth. I am fascinated with the education youth that is the tomorrow of Kosovo, the region and Europe.

He underlined that in the meeting with Minister Beqaj, opinions regarding matters related to the functioning of local administrations were discussed, and expressed his gratitude to Minister Beqaj for his readiness to support members of the Croatian community in Kosovo.
