Vienna, 25 October 2011 – The Minister of Economic Development Besim Beqaj presented Kosovo’s economic development priorities and foreign investment possibilities in all economic spheres to the Vienna Economic Forum.

Minister Beqaj emphasized that in comparison to the other countries of the region Kosovo has favorable economic policies, which encourage the investors to review investment possibilities and to decide to invest in the country.

He also underlined that the Ministry of Economic Development has determined its priorities, which are related to the promotion of the energy, mining, telecommunication and IT sectors, as well as the promotion of other areas of interest, which could directly contribute to the acceleration of the country’s economic development and the diminishment of the unemployment rate.

Beqaj mentioned the significance of attracting private capital in Kosovo, as well as the necessity to transform public enterprises, in order to establish a functional market economy; He promoted the possibilities for public-private partnerships in concrete projects, and the accomplishments in the process of business barrier elimination, which will contribute to the empowerment of the private sector and to the country’s economic growth.

Minister Beqaj presented the legislative framework regulating the abovementioned sectors, which was proceeded by the MED and adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.

The MED head presented projects like KEDS, Kosova e Re Power Plant construction, as well as procedures for the areas of special interest in the sphere of mining, renewable energy generation investments and other economic development priorities.
