Prishtinë, 10 November 2011 The Minister of Economic Development, Besim Beqaj, accompanied by the Mayor of Prishtina Isa Mustafa, symbolically inaugurated today the public efficient lighting project, which covered the installation of efficient bulbs in the Ilir Konushevci St. in the capital.
Using this occasion Minister Beqaj expressed his satisfaction for being able to promote along with the Mayor of Prishtina this new energy efficiency project, which is being developed in the framework of the National Energy Efficiency Plan.
These common plans are developed with municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo, and are supported by GIZ. MED has also taken similar public lighting measures in other municipalities, using efficient bulbs, which save electricity, have a longer operational life and provide the citizens with higher quality lighting, said Beqaj.
MED head said that this project commences with Municipality of Prishtina and continues in Ferizaj, Mitrovica and Podujeva.
For his part, Mayor of Prishtina Isa Mustafa ascertained that this project will serve the accomplishment of European integration intentions to save electricity and public money and to provide citizens with efficient energy.
We will try to coordinate all similar efforts with the Ministry, in order to have more avenues, squares and public environments with such installed efficient lighting, said Mustafa, while expressing his gratitude to the MED for implementing this project.
Otherwise, this project is part of the strategy for the implementation of energy efficiency measures by public institutions, as envisaged in the National Energy Efficiency Plan and in compliance with EU and EnTC requirements. Further, this project implements the Decision of the Government of Republic of Kosovo on the use of efficient bulbs in public road lighting.
