Prishtina, 10.06.2015 Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Besa Zogaj-Gashi, and her associates, met a German delegation led by Peer Hoth, Head of the Division of Mineral Resources and Geosciences at the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology, accompanied by Joachim Schomburg - Geologist, Veronica Hofinger Project Manager in the GIZ, and Henriette Kotter Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Pristina, to discuss on economic developments in the country.
Alban Kaçiu, Advisor to the Cabinet, Fidaim Sahiti, Director of the Geological Service of Kosovo, Dukagjin Shala, Head of the Department of Mines and Minerals, Kemajl Zeqiri, Board member of ICMM, were all part of the MED delegation, headed by Deputy Minister Zogaj-Gashi, as well as Fatos Meqa, Head of KPA Organization Unit.
Deputy Minister Zogaj-Gashi said that the structural economic reforms and the development of the mining sector are considered essential to ensure economic growth for the coming years.
According to her, natural resources including mineral resources, in addition to human resources, are among most important assets of the Republic of Kosovo, therefore MED has created a legal and regulatory infrastructure to enable better management and rational use of such resources.
From her part, Veronika Hofinger (GIZ) said that the agency is interested to support investments that will open new jobs in Kosovo, as well as in explaining legal procedures for potential investors in Kosovo.
Hofinger asked for more information regarding the use of halozite in Kosovo, its quantities and the possibility of its processing in Kosovo.
Both delegations also discussed on the possibility of holding the next meeting in Berlin, at the ministerial level, as the necessity of signing a bilateral agreement was raised, between the Geological Services of Kosovo and Germany, to support research this field.
